Day #5: Ground One

Updated: May 27, 2019

“In and out and do NOT stray,” I told Jeremy. We were supposed to gather supplies: guns, ammos, knives, food. The basics. He strayed anyway.

We lived 30 minutes outside of Fair Game Capital or Touch One as some called it. That gave us 15 minutes to get in and get out. No more. No less. It was the only place within a 150-mile radius that we had not already emptied. Hansen negotiated with themto allow us limited access to the things theydid not need.

Jeremy was in a gas station staring at some stationary items when I found him. Pens to be specific. I tried to pull him away multiple times, but he was stuck in place, like his feet were glued to the floor.

I was ready to leave until he uttered “Do not leave me.” through his teeth. I took a step closer to see his face better. He was petrified.

He would not even look at my hand movements. So, I decided to follow his eyes to the pens, which it turns out, he was not even looking at. He was staring at the space between the pens and highlighters.

A hole had been cut into the space, but something behind it was the same color, beige.

I looked down at my watch. 27 seconds. “Jeremy, if you do not move, we are not going to make it out of here.”

10 seconds on the clock and he finally turned to me. “We aren’t going to make it out.” He leaned in closer and whispered, “They’rewatching us.” Then, he turned back to stare at the space between the pens. I watched with him as the beige thing turned into a red pupil and a green iris that filled the whole eye.

“Time’s up!” The heinous thing beathed as it tore through the wall, grabbed the nape of my neck and slammed my head against the wall of stationary items.

All I remembered was waking up across city lines with deep scratch and bite marks all over my body and no Jeremy or truck.
